The 2011 ROck and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City (as usual) on March 14th this year. Alice Cooper, Dr. John (Mac Rebanak) and Darlene Love are just three of this years honourees. This time out, our trivia questions are all about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As usual, some are easier than others, although if you really know your rock and roll, they should all be a snap. So, get your rock and roll cap on and let's get rollin'.

QUESTIONS


1. She was the first female inducted into the Hall of Fame and that didn't even happen until the second year. She's lived in Detroit, Michigan for most of her life, but the sound that made her famous came together in a recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee, the city where she was born. Her first album was released when she was just 14 years old. She's only had 2 # 1 hits and they came 20 years apart, although she's had 17 Top Ten singles. She's gets a lot of respect from other performers. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked her Number One on its list of the greatest singers of all time. WHo is this legendary singer?

2. In 2003, six performers were inducted into the Hall of Fame, including this duo who first got together in a group called The Paramours in 1962. These two singers formed their own group not long after and began recording under the name that made them famous in 1963. One of their hit songs is featured in the movie "Ghost". (oh dear, now I've gone and given it away). Can you name this duo?

3. This group was inducted in 2006. Their hits included a Top Ten song that referenced both Watergate and Neil Young. Their name comes from a slightly different spelling of the name of their high school gym teacher. Several members were killed in a plane crash in 1977. What's the name of the group?

4. His guitar sound was, and is, unique. His debut album was called "have Twangy Guitar, Will Travel". His hits include, "Cannonball", "(Dance With) The Guitar Man" a"Because They're Young" (all Top 20 hits). Who is this 'Rebel Rouser?

5. Last year (2010), Steve Van Zandt, aka Little Steven, aka Miami Steve, inducted this group into the Hall of Fame. They first hit the singles chart in 1964. Their harmonies were legendary and their hits plentiful. They survived the departure of a founding member and continued to have hits into the 1980's. Who is this group? Oh and I forgot to mention, they were British.

6. OK, I'm going to hand you one on a silver platter. This Hall of Famer was inducted in the very first year, 1986. He was known as 'The Godfather of Soul' and 'The Hardest Working Man In Show Biz'. Although he never had a number one single, "It's A Man's Mans Mans World", "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and ""Cold Sweat" are just 3 of his Top Ten hits. So who is this legendary performer?

7. Also inducted during the first year was a bombastic performer who once showed up at the gates of Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion waving a gun. He's been married 6 times and was once signed to Sun Records. His life story became the 1989 movie, "Great Balls OF Fire", which was named for one of his biggest hits. He's a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. Who is this piano playin' legend?

8. He was one of the most respected guitar players in the world. The Beatles George Harrison was a huge fan as was Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler. He was also one of the top producers in the record industry starting in the 1950's. Elvis Presley, country star Jim Reeves, The Everly Brothers, Wayklon Jennings and pop crooner Perry Como were some of the artists he's produced. The Gretsch 'Country Gentleman' is his signature guitar. Who is this Nashville legend?

9. This group was led by a Florida native who once took guitar lessons from The Eagles Don Felder. He met Elvis Presley on the set of his 1961 film, "Follow That Dream". As a solo artist and a member of two hit groups, he's sold 60 million albums, cassettes and CD's. Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne were briefly, his 'family'. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Who is he?

10. One of this year's inductees sang in the high school choir with Barbra Streisand. He wrote a number one hit for The Monkees even though his own version only made it to # 51 on the singles chart. He sometimes wrote under the name Mark Lewis. He later became an actor, starring in a 1980 remake of the first 'talking picture' in 1927. He's a 'jewel' of a performer - can you name him?. 1. Aretha Franklin is the lady we're looking for. She was born in Memphis in 1942. Her family moved to Buffalo, New York when she was 2, then Detroit when Aretha was 4 years old. Her two Number One hits were "Respect" (written by Otis Redding) in 1967 and "I Knew Your Were Waiting (For Me)" with George Michael in 1987. She had a cameo role as a waitress in the 1980 hit film, "The Blues Brothers".

2. The duo would be Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield who became The Righteous Brothers. After a couple of minor hits on the Moonglow label, the duo signed with Phil Spector's Philles label and had their biggest hit of their career "You"ve Lost That lovin' Feeling" which went to # 1 in February 1965. The following year, after they'd left Philles Records for the Verve label, they hit # 1 again with "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration". "Unchained Melody", produced by Phil Spector, became a Top 5 hit in '65, but went on to greater glory in the 1990 film "Ghost". Bobby Hatfield was found dead in his hotel room in Kalamazoo, Michigan on November 5, 2003.

3. It's Lynyrd Skynyrd, who took their name from their Florida high school gym teacher Leonard Skinner.

4. That twangy guitar man is Duane Eddy, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

5. They were The Hollies, who had hits with "Bus Stop" and "Stop, Stop, Stop". After co-founder Graham Nash left to form Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Hollies hits continued with "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)" and "The Air That I Breath".

6. James Brown was 'The Godfather of Soul', as if you didn't know.

7. Jerry Lee Lewis is the name we're looking for. Jerry's career took a major nose dive in 1958 when it was revealed that he'd married his 13 year old first cousin (once removed). Jerry Lee continues to perform in his 76th year.

8. Chet Atkins is the man we're looking for. Chet was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, a year after he'd died. He won 14 Grammy Awards during his lifetime and went into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1973.

9. He's Tom Petty, who's two groups were The Heartbreakers and the Travelling Wilbury's.

10. Neil Diamond will be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this March.

2. Creedance Clearwater Revival first recorded as the Blue VelVets, then in 1964, after they signed to Fantasy Records, they became known as The Golliwogs, so the correct answer is c. They re-named themselves Creedance Clearwater Revival in 1967.
